Caernarfon Castle is a medieval military fortress located in Caernarfon, Gwynedd, Wales. It is a motte and bailey castle built during the 11th century by Edward I during his bitter wars against the Welsh Princes. Nowadays, Caernarfon Castle, which is recognised as one of the finest building of the middle ages, forms part of a World Heritage Site with the Edward I’s other castles of Conwy, Beaumanris and Harlech. But possibly due it’s sheer scale, architectural drama and how it dominates the surrounding landscape, Caernarfon Castle stands alone.
